About Mr.Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi entered politics after following the footsteps of his family. He is the fourth generation member of the Gandhi family to come into politics. He is the vice president of All India Congress Party and the president of Indian Youth Congress and National Student’s Union of India. He is the member of parliament who represents the Amethi Constituency. He comes from a family which is very much politically influenced. His great grand father Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of our country while his grand mother Indira Gandhi was the first woman prime minister of India. His father Rajiv Gandhi was also the prime minister of India while his mother Sonia Gandhi is the president of INC.
 

Personal Life of Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi was born in Delhi on 19th June, 1970 and is the elder one of the two siblings. His mother Sonia Gandhi basically belongs to Italy but has owned Indian citizenship after getting married to Rajiv Gandhi. He has a sister Priyanka who is married to a businessman Robert Vadra. Family faced threat from Sikh community after Indira Gandhi was assassinated on 31st October, 1984. Due to this, Rahul and Priyanka has to leave school and complete their schooling from home. After completing his first year in graduation he moved to Harvard University but as his father was assassinated by LTTE in 1991, he had to shift to Rollins College Florida. In 1995, he completed his M.Phil from Trinity College of Cambridge in Development Studies.
 

Professional life of Rahul Gandhi

Rahul has worked for three years for Monitor Group in London and after returning back to India opened a Technology outsourcing firm named Backops Services Private ltd.

 

Rahul Gandhi’s entry into politics.

In March 2004, Rahul Gandhi entered into politics and declared that he would contest in Lok Sabha election that was to be held in May from Amethi constituency of UP. It was the time when party was not doing well and it only occupied 10 out of 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha. His announcement created mixed reactions in the political front of the country. Priyanka who was present for the campaigns got noticed by people. They compared her with her grandmother Indira Gandhi and thought that she has better political career compared to her brother. Some people even thought that her presence may attract more youngsters to the party. Rahul in his first talk with media said that he wants to unify the country from the differences of religion and caste. Rahul Gandhi won the hearts of people by winning the election.
 

Achievements of Rahul Gandhi

  • Rahul was elected from Amethi constituency to the Lok Sabha in 2004.
  • He attended different party meetings and public events along with his mother.
  • Rahul along with his sister arranged campaigns for their mother who was contesting from Rae Barelli constituency of UP. Sonia won the election.
  • He campaigned for the party in the 2007 Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh.
  • There was a huge increase in the number of members of the Indian Youth Congress and National Student’s Union of India by the efforts of Rahul Gandhi.
  • He was appreciated for his efforts for improving the image of the party in Uttar Pradesh where the party managed to win 20 Lok Sabha seats out of 80. He travelled across the state and took part in 125 rallies.
  • Rahul Gandhi campaigned for two moths for the Assembly elections that were held in Uttar Pradesh in 2007. It helped Congress to win 28 seats out of 80.
  • Rahul along with his sister went to Pakistan to watch a Indo – Pak cricket match as a part of the goodwill visit which took place for the first time in 14 years.
  • He was appointed as the vice president of the Party on 13th January, 2013 during the party conclave that was held in Jaipur.
  • Rahul Gandhi openly critizied the prime minister and his government for trying to revoke the ordinance of SC which stated that no criminal can take part in elections.
